Minister of Marine Affairs & Fisheries Committed to Struggle Legality Pari Island

Pulau Pari, 22 Juli 2018 “Indonesia has many islands; we have 17,504 islands and Pari Island is only one of them. We welcome any party willing to manage, but it is rather pathetic that for a country with thousands of island still fuss about one island.” Said Ministry of Fishery and Maritime, Susi Pudjiastuti in front of the people of Pari Island on Sunday morning, 22 July 2018. "I just want to ask, why do you want to manage the island? If you are just looking for money, I won’t allow it because the island is a legacy of God given to our nation to be inherited, passed down to our grandchildren.” she added again. For that, according to Minister Susi Pudjiastuti, people who live on the island including Pari Island must maintain cleanliness, maintain the health of the sea so that the island can be inherited to the children and grandchildren. According to Minister Susi Pudjiastuti coastal sea is a place for fish to breed, therefore, citizens already have to have life practices that can maintain the preservation of marine and coastal environments. The Minister also reminded residents not to use excessive plastic, because plastic takes 450 years to be destroyed in the sea. Minister Susi Pudjiastuti attended the World Mangrove Day in Pari Island on July 26, 2018. On behalf of Minister Susi Pudjiastuti in Pari Island, Syahrul Hidayat, Chairman of Forum of Perduli Pulau Pari (FP3) expressed her gratitude because Minister Susi Pudjiastuti has been willing to visit and came to Pari Island. Syahrul hopes that all dream and hope of the people of Pari Island will come true. As it is known, currently Citizens of Pari island is in conflict with PT. Bumi Pari Asri which claims 90% of Pari Island belongs to their land. Upon such claim, at least one citizen has been criminalized and one person is serving a trial in North Jakarta District Court. They are accused of entering the yard without permission. In 2014 - 2015 BPN North Jakarta issued about 63 Certificates of Property and 14 Certificates of Building Use Rights in Pari Island, but on April 9, 2018, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia declared maladministration of the certificates. "Legal effort, legality effort, I will try to help at my best," said Minister Susi Pudjiastuti at the end of the Meeting. “The presence of Minister Susi Pudjiastuti in Pari Island brings positive support for the fight of Pari Island people and for the Environmental Sustainability. As we all know, Minster Susi Pudjiastuti is the one who objects the idea of island privatization; furthermore, the Minster shares information and supports the people to preserve the island, coastal, and sea; with this sustainability, not only that the citizen will get prosperity having abundant seafood, but also we will be able to inherit the island to the next generations.” said Nur Hidayati, National Executive Director of WALHI who also attended the meeting
