We view your response, published on March 4 on your website, as an encouraging sign of the bank’s recognition of ours and international civil society’s concerns regarding the controversial dam project. As Bank of China conducts an evaluation, we kindly request a meeting with your team in Jakarta. We would like to discuss the concerns we have raised, and would see your acceptance of our invitation as evidence of the bank’s respect for the Indonesian people. Many of the environmental, social, and biodiversity risks are fairly complex, and so we hope a meeting can help clarify and dispel common misconceptions regarding the dam’s real impacts. We believe that open communication with Bank of China is critical. Like Bank of China, we aim to promote environmentally friendly projects which are sustainable for both nature and people. As such, please confirm if your team can join us in Jakarta for a meeting by March 28, 2019. However, we are open for adjustment if the date doesn’t work for you.
